Harry and the Hair

tangled3.JPGHarry Potter’s latest adventure has topped the box office for at least one more week. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 narrowly bested Disney’s new computer-animated charmer, Tangled, at theaters this weekend, earning $50.3 million to Tangled’s $49.1 million.

But it’s not as if Disney’s fretting over the film’s split ends. Tangled, over the extended five-day holiday weekend, earned $69 million—the second biggest Thanksgiving opening ever (behind Toy Story 2) and enough to buy lots and lots of conditioner. Word has it that Tangled is getting some impressive word-of-mouth, too, which means Potter and Tangled could be knotted again over the box office crown come next weekend.

Both soundly thumped the rest of the competition. Megamind held on to third place with $12.9 million, followed by the opening of Burlesque ($11.8 mil) and Unstoppable ($11.8 mil). Newcomers Love and Other Drugs and Faster each earned less than $10 million to land in sixth and seventh place, respectively.

Plugged In liked Tangled quite a bit—despite a curious incantation heard therein. I, personally, haven’t seen the film yet—perhaps because I fear watching all that hair in action would make me rub my balding head in dismay.
