Website Racing

If it were possible for websites to arrange themselves on the starting line of a track, react to the starting gun, and then muscle their way around the turns and jockey for position along the straightaways, it might make for some interesting viewing. Of course, websites can’t run (although those of us who write for them can run on and on with our opinions—as I’m about to do). But they do compete.

And as of Tuesday night in Nashville, as the various websites nominated among the very best in Christendom came sprinting toward the finish line, one website edged out the “competition” and broke the tape.

And which one might it be? Drum roll please. I’m happy to announce that pluggedin.com climbed to the top of the podium with a gold medal around its neck at this year’s National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) conference. Today, I feel like a very proud parent, watching as “my child” (really an entire department’s “child”) receives accolades. It’s a great feeling. It’s a huge honor. And here’s what I mean. I’ll quote from the official NRB press release:

The NRB Best Ministry Website Award honors the Internet website of a ministry or content producer that shows excellence in design and content, is creative in presentation, and is helping fulfill the ministry’s mission. This year, the judges named Focus on the Family the winner of the award for PluggedIn.com.

Plugged In does more than just rate movies, games and other entertainment products,” noted NRB President & CEO Dr. Frank Wright. “The publication goes deeper, diving into specific content and the meaning behind them for the edification of its readers.”

As much as I’m excited about the award, I’m still very aware that it’s you, our reader, who makes all of this worth doing. We regularly get your feedback that we’re helping you honor Christ with your entertainment choices and challenging you to think deeper about media issues.

So, thanks for engaging with us on this journey. And thanks, NRB, for recognizing our unique ministry. Thank you, most of all, to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit for allowing us this distinctive outreach. We don’t take it lightly! And may we never do so!

By the way, you may have heard that the Olympic committee is thinking of eliminating the sport of wrestling in 2020. Hmmm. I wonder if they’d consider adding website racing in its place?
